Historical Romance Writers Dishing the Dirt on Research

10 July 2007

RWA Conference

It's July, and that means one thing for most romance writers: It's time for the annual Romance Writers of America conference. It also frequently means things like new clothes (hello, most of us work in our PJs), new shoes (like the fab Fluevogs here), new haircuts, etc.

This is a placeholder post, as most of us Hoydens are in Dallas, TX for the conference. We may be back on and off during the week posting bits of info about the conference, or just chatting about the goings-on, so keep a weather-eye on this space.

Have a fabulous time! Have to say, I miss the chance to see good friends and talk writing (not to mention dressing up in new clothes :-).

Have fun you guys. I agree Tracy, I miss the chance to see my friends, and dressing up for the RITA's, but I'm not sad to be missing Dallas. Can't wait for San Francisco in 2008!

Have a great time! Wish I could be there. I have never been to RWA or RT so have lots of fun for me too. :-)

Hello, from Dallas. Just got back to my room after hearing an insightful speech from the lunch time keynote speaker and historical author, Lisa Kleypas.

And I've met so many readers of the Hoyden Blog (hello Keira, good to meet you in person)! Amazing...

I know Kalen Hughs sold a lot of copies of LORD SIN at the literary signing last night...many of which went to History Hoyden readers who stopped by. Very cool.

Having fun. Keeping fingers crossed for Pam Rosenthal at the RITA awards tomorrow night.

Thanks for the crossed fingers, Kathrynn. Meanwhile, it's huge fun being queen for a day, as Doreen puts it, and getting congrats and warm wishes. The green "Rita Finalist" ribbon dangling from my badge made it all seem sort of real, in an unreal, dreamy sort of way.

I've also been told I'm a "fun girl" (by a young writer I helped find her way from our off-site bargain hotel to the big one where all the action is). I heard from a nice young writer that she's a "fangirl" of my erotic, Molly Weatherfield stuff.

And tomorrow I'll be Theorygirl, when Janet Mullany and I give our workshop on "Writing the Hot Historical." It'll be tomorrow, Friday 13 at 9:45 am in Reunion E. Janet will be Historygirl while muse about how we use time, space, historical conditions, and language to create an erotic charge when writing about... about an imaginary world with real toads in it?

Hope some of you hoydens and blog-readers (the ones who are in Dallas), will come and give it a listen.

How fun to get actual updates from the conference! Best wishes for tomorrow night Pam! (When did the Ritas move to Friday? It's been so long since I've been to an RWA National; are the publishers' dinners on Saturday now?) . Your and Janet's workshop sounds great too!

Wow, Pam, sorry I'm going to miss that workshop. I'll have to add it to my list of workshop tapes I'm purchasing. Good luck tomorrow night at the RITA's. Tracy, I think the publisher's dinners are on Friday's. At least in Atlanta, all the publishing parties seemed to be Friday night.
